Getting rid of those annoying side panels in certain Zones

Okay, well considering none of the above seems to have done the trick have you tried creating 2 new Comcode pages via the CMS Zone, worx:panel_left and worx:panel_right, both blank. Pretty sure that "worx" in over-riding the current panels.

I'm going to have a look at this when I can. It may be a few days until I can though.

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about Composr whenever you see the opportunity or support me on Patreon.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying Composr on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

Thank you very much Chris…. Very VERY helpful and appreciated.

One minor notation…. What if the main menu bar were to have added menus? It states once you edit the main menu bar its copied to an editable menu and therefore nothing will be automatically added from then on?

How can I revert back to the original menu and if the changed menu has just added a couple of zones and not deleted anything else why would the automatic linking be null and void?

It would make sense to just have Compo.sr ignore the added links and still function the same…. just my thinking.

Hi,

Actually it's not that Composr is adding things automatically on the menus when you add a catalogue or whatever. The auto-generated menus are actually fully generated on-the-fly via the hard-coded sitemap algorithm (well, with caching). There's no flexibility in that system.

You're setting up an a site with multiple zones and different content managed data in those zones, so I'm afraid you're working on a much higher level of sophistication than what the auto-generated menus were designed for. We created those just for either people to get started with, or people who only want to add some content and have no need to customise anything structural.

To revert to the default menus you have to change the "Header-menu call string" option back to:
site:start,include=node,title=Home,icon=menu/start + site:,use_page_groupings=1,max_recurse_depth=4,child_cutoff=15,collapse_zones=1

When you override the menu it changes this option automatically to the name of the menu you're saving to (main_menu if I remember correctly).

Note however though that the menus have no idea what zone you want to link to the catalogues in, it's essentially pot luck. So you have no choice other than to be comfortable editing the menus and making sure any links to catalogues on there point to under the zone you want them to go through.

Ok, I did take a look at our Menu editing tutorial and I see it does need a bit of an update for how v10 works. I don't think it currently even mentions the default menus in there. I'll review it tomorrow.
