Can We Make Search Result Pages With Less Fat?

Please?

Greetings,

The good news is that Composr has a nice search feature. The bad news is it is full of fat. What I mean is, it displays the entire page that contains what you are searching for in the search result page, with a button at the bottom to let you view the page. If you have large pages of content and many pages of content containing the searched-for word or phrase, this can sause quite a mess. Imagine, if you will, 20 full pages, each in their pretty little boxes, on a search result page.

I would like to trim it up some, make it less fatty and more like how a search engine would show things. Basically, I'd like the page title, maybe 50-150 characters, and an easy way to go straight to the page for more info.

I've tried to do this by editing SEARCH_RESULT.tpl, and I managed to basically get what I want, with one exception. I can't get a working link to the actual page to display because the link to the page is put at the bottom of the result-view and my method basically was the overflow elipse method.

So, is there a way I can do this? Maybe some magical tempcode I could use or could add to what I've tried? I've looked through the tempcode programing page and found nothing to help me.

This does sound like something we should classify as a bug.

Could you attach a full screenshot of the issue. There are browser plugins that let you take a long screenshot of a page (i.e. it not just the visible part).

We are meant to be taking only the text around search terms, but I am imagining maybe in case the search term occurs so much it is showing the whole page. The screenshot will help me understand better.

I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying Composr on fun personal projects.

I just did a search for the term "races".

Ah, wiki pages. This will be implemented in the next patch release, along with support on some other content types which can potentially have long text.

Awesome! I'll wait on that patch release though lol, that's a lot of file edits.
