Newbie here - having some difficulties

I'm very new to composr but so far - I love it.

However, I cannot seem to find a way to manually move users from one user group to another.

I'm trying to do so because new members are all going into the basic usergroup which had limited permissions but I want them to have different permissions from day one.  I therefore changed the permissions and the initial join group but that's had no effect.

Not sure why

Also, even when logged in as admin I cannot seem to validate anything (not that I want to have to do so).

Any help gratefully appreciated

Hello and welcome Martin.

I don't think there is an official move option to move members from one usergroup to another (there are ways, if it is really necessary), but there is a copy option. Go into Admin Zone>Security>Usergroups>Edit Usergroup and choose the Edit link from the Action column for the usergroup you want members copied to. Once in the 'edit usergroup' page you will find a Copy Members option in the Actions section near the bottom of the page. I think you can just type the name of the usergroup you want to copy members from in that Copy Members option and then click the Save button to copy the members.

I'm assuming you created a new usergroup to be the initial usergroup and that you have configured it with the user privileges you want? If you didn't set specific privileges and permissions, you can set the privileges for usergroups in the Admin Zone>Security>Global Privileges and you can check/set permissions in Admin Zone>Security>Permissions Tree Editor.

If you don't want to be validating content and trust that members that submit content will not abuse that privilege, there are permissions to 'Avoid validation' in Admin Zone>Security>Global Privileges>Submission.

I'm not sure about the validation problem. What are you trying to validate and what steps are you taking to validate? Content that needs to be validated should have a Validate option with an On/Off button when you go into the Edit page for the content that needs to be validated. On=validated=will be shown on website to those with proper permissions/privileges, Off=not validated.

Regards,
Jason
