Question about upgrading to v10

I have just now installed ocPortal v9.0.26 and I have not touched anything, as far as setting anything up. I have a perfectly clean version of v9 installed. I would like to upgrade to Composr v10 before I even begin to build my website, so I can avoid having to upgrade to v10 at a later time. There is no custom theme or code, nothing but the very basic v9 installation. In fact, I have not even run the "Theme Wizard" yet.

Obviously, I would like to get into building my website ASAP, however, it looks like our Pro Help guys are swamped with work and probably won't be able to help me, very soon. I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, a programmer and pretty much inexperienced when it comes to messing with data bases, server setups, etc..

I would like to know if it would be better for me to wait until the Pro Help folks can upgrade my v9.0.26 to version 10, before I start building a website, or should I just build my website with v9.0.26, then get the v10 upgrade done later.

The reason I'm even asking this dumb, new-bee question is because, it looks like a pretty complicated upgrade from v9 to v10.

Thank you in advance.

As this is a new site, I would suggest that you instead install the latest RC of v10 and then upgrade to the final release, avoiding the hassle of upgrading from v9. Whilst using the RC on a live site isn't recommended, the majority of major issues have already been dealt with. It's a small risk of course, but that's what I would do personally.

Thanks a million for the quick reply, sir. So, waiting for the pros to help me upgrade would be the best idea. I'm planning a pretty simple portal/website, the forums being the major focus. It will be a community volunteer website, used primarily for communication, news distribution, calendar, education, etc… I wouldn't fear using the newest "RC" for my live site, as it looks like the latest version is awesome, in just about every way.

Hopefully, I can get help to upgrade this v9, pretty soon, as we are in sort of a time crunch, as if that is a real shocker to anyone, huh? Everybody always needs everything ASAP…

Thanks again!

OH! I meant to say that I installed the version 9 on the new server by using the "Softaculous" installer. It just couldn't get much easier, but that's about my level of expertise… :$O_o

It wouldn't be difficult to delete that install and manually upload the RC12 files, no steep learning curve there. Once the files are on the server and you have created a database. it's as simple as the v9 install you already did. Softaculous doesn't make it much easier than it would be otherwise (there is an automatic extractor for RC10 which is great if your server meets the requirements to use it). Whatever you choose to do, it does make sense to use v10 now. There are so many improvements over v9 and upgrading to the stable release is supported. Welcome to the community :)

Thanks, KingBast. Yep, it does make more sense to get the newest now. I'll see if I can get the current install deleted and the RC12 files uploaded. Is there a tutorial somewhere for getting that done? I sure appreciate the assistance!

This tutorial should point you in the right direction.
Composr Tutorial: Basic Installation - Composr

I imagine you can uninstall v9 from the same place you installed it.

If you have any questions though, feel free to ask them.

I have taken your suggestion, I've removed v9 and have put in a support ticket to install v10. Hopefully we can get that done so I can get to the business of configuration. Once again, thanks for your input!
