Installing which version
Hello All.I am interested in using Composr, however, my host has said that they onlyhave OCPortal available for download through Softaculous. Is there an official date when the transition to Composr will be final and OCPortal will go away and Composr will be the download that is offered?
I dont want to build OCPortal only to have to start over with Composr. Can omeone shed some light.
Thank You

It'll be when there's been approximately a 2-week period with no failure-level bugs reported in any of the bundled addons. There's no set date, it's just based on that criteria being met. There's a lot of bundled addons, options, and different system configurations out there, so we're still getting some bug reports coming in.
I wouldn't make a decision based on what a host 'supports' though. The installer takes just a few minutes to go through, softaculous is just a shortcut.

Chris

- If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying Composr on fun personal projects.
- If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I'm in the same boat as you are regarding support from my ISP. However, I have found a work around. I use IMH (In Motion Hosting).
My method is to use the manual extraction installation from Composr. Create a folder under the public_html and uncompress the installation file into that folder. I use IMH cPanel's mySQL to create the database you plan on using (no tables), create the database user and give full permissions and add user to the database. (The database can then be maintained via cPanel's phpMyAdmin. Then, from your browser run the Compossr install.php. Be careful regarding passwords (Composr recently started requiring a more secure password scheme). One site that I know is using Composr is http://www.sarhm.org/index.php This site is currently using RC18 & 19
