Spaces in dropdown menu?

what causes this? V11
This is a theme question but I am not certain if you want V11 theme questions in the designing forum yet so I am posting it here. Apologies if this is the wrong place.So I have been playing around with the theming, and got a theme going. There is one aspect though that I can't seem to find to fix. The dropdown menu puts these ugly spaces in between the menu items. I have played with different things and can't seem to find what causes it. Any ideas?

UPDATE: the problem just disappeared. I'm not sure why? Maybe something I did yesterday fixed it but I forgot to empty the cache? LOL who knows...
