Summary | 0004128: Automatic bans for spam based on keywords |
---|
Description | Add a new XML file for configuring strings that will result in an automatic ban for spam, before content is even posted.
The exact nature of the ban would be configurable in the XML, i.e. whether to do an IP ban, a member ban, and whether to do a scare ban. Optionally you could filter it to certain match-keys.
When the ban happens, the ban screen would be shown immediately. |
---|
Additional Information | The purpose of this is to deal with spammers who are continually creating new accounts to spam the same thing, which we get on compo.sr. It seems some low paid people in developing countries are paid just go through spreadsheets of known user-postable sites, mindlessly creating new accounts and re-posting spam. The spam posts themselves are jumbled up with random text, but they always link out to the same target site. As it is a real human, bot banning measures like honeypots do not work. The spammers use DHCP-refreshes and proxies to mask their IP. The shadow banning feature we use on compo.sr works, but it's still annoying. |
