Important: This website is now read only (except to admins) to comply with the UK Online Safety Act. Composr CMS is in the process of migrating to a new Constitutional governance model and Bazaar development model, with functionality of the old website (constructed by ocProducts Ltd, the prior copyright holder, a UK company) spread between GitLab and the new website (which has no connections to the UK).
I installed a fresh PHPBB3 and composr, I did get several shuosin errors and despite making the prefered .htaccess file the default ,htaccess the errors about max lengh remained. However everything seemed to work ok. We decided we would like the forum to reside inside the cms, so following the instruction we tried to set this up. Half way through the screen gave the following error (see pic) and we can no longer acess the admin panel.
Can anyone offer any help? We are not the most technical!
I believe if you upload the 2 files in the zip it will fix it. I haven't tested (as I don't have a test non-CNS install at hand), but I did see and fix a bug that would cause it.
If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
If so, please let others know about Composr whenever you see the opportunity or support me on Patreon.
If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying Composr on fun personal projects.
If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.
Thanks alot Chris, We assumed a bad install, so have reinstalled both the forum and composr. We are going to try and integrate it again, so if i get the same situation i will use the files and report back. Thank you for the speedy reply.

I uploaded the unzipped file via FTP, the file structure was over written. Then from the admin zone i enable the forum inside site feature as per the doc. This time we get no errors and we can access the admin panel. However when you click on forum from the social tab it still displays the forum on its own and not within the site.
I have enabled the site incase it help for you to look.

Sorry Chris, i didnt mean to seem rude, my assumption was i wasnt doing something right!! This site is a test site, a kind of test bed for us to see how we are going to implement it, so please dont knock yourself out on it. I am not in a major rush as i have roughly 4 weeks before i need to install and configure the main site.
I am finding much of the software easy to use, even for a beginner like myself. The catalogues i havnt got the hang of, but they are something we have wanted for a long time! Some really nice features in the software.

If i press the profile button then the forum appears within the cms.
The software is for a program we are running in a test school (very long story), if we end up rolling it out to all schools in our area (roughly 400), i think we will employ you to install etc, i would also expect the education authority to donate to the project.
We tried OCportal 2-3 years ago, it just didnt hold up well in our application, composr seems more robust somehow, cant out my finger on it but it does feel different.
I think i have the catalog categories etc back to front, by that i think they work the opposite way to what i expect. so today is get to grips with them, these will be key to what we want.
So the "Show forum within website" isn't something very many people have used at all, I don't think anyone tested it on Composr until now – so I have gone and done a full re-test on it and fixed various problems. It all seems to work smoothly for me now, including posting and searching.

Notably though there are a couple of complexities.
The "Pages without security tokens" option needs to have the "forums" page added to the list. It will be now for fresh installs.
I made a tweak to the default theme to make phpBB embed in it better. So if you have a custom theme on there that would need tweaking/regenerating.
The block cache will need emptying so that the menu regenerates.
We have in recent years been very focused in targeting practical pain points for people rather than adding much new functionality, so it's definitely true that Composr is a much smoother experience than ocPortal was.
I'd love to see Composr rolled out to a large number of schools. You might want to drop me an email (chris@ocproducts.com) about the details, I may be able to make some comments. It's likely we're about to start a high-quality Composr training course for beginner-level programming, maybe that fits into your plans. I'd be interested to know what region. I remember you from before actually .

Hi Chris, As you mentioned complexities and i am a scientist not a web guy….. SOMEONE (else) will install the fix on Monday/Tuesday. I would only manage to break it!
Last time we spoke on OCportal i was not ion the best of moods . So i had kind of hoped you had forgotten me lol.
I will drop you a line in the next few days explaining the project and our plans. I was unable to recommend OCportal in the end, but even after a day or so with Composr, i feel a great deal more confident in the software.
I will leave the forum integration until Monday/Tuesday, i am not the person for that kind of job!!. One thing i have discovered is the Buldr addon, I want to concentrate on this over the weekend.
I appreciate that it is advertised as a 'fun' module, however we have seen an immediate educational application for it. I will email you in the next few days with as much detail as i can.
I fully understand your time constraints, so please dont feel pressured into having to answer promptly, we do have the luxury of a couple of months before i need to make any firm decisions.
Once again i appreciate the extremely fast and professional response, who have given in this matter.
Ok I think i found it, i cleared it and the browser cache, however i still dont get the forum embedded within the site (except when i select user profile!).
Have these hot fixes been included in the downloaded package for composr or are they strictly hotfixs? the reason I ask is simply, it might be better if i just reinstall both composr and phpbb.

lol, well I have a vague memory only.

Cool .

If you've previously hand-edited the menus the old link would have saved in there. If so you can manually change the link, it'd be the ":forums" page-link instead of what currently would be a static URL. The 'forums' page is what everything will route through.

I didnt edit any link….. Might be best to wait for the new Rc release . The actual log in side of things work, so those that join the forum can log into the site, this is the most important bit. The embedded bit i can wait to sort our .
These are new installs, so i have plenty to keep me busy just trying different things out. I have 5 students on hand to try a few things, they have come up with an idea for the buidr game addon. I have to say that if the add on is able to do what they think it might be able to, then composr with that add on has some significant learning advantages.
I will email you the details, once i get a chance.
When the new rc comes out i will do a screen shot install from a beginners perspective. I have seen a few posts on the forum asking about the one click installs, i think by doing a install and showing screen shots, alot more people will take the plunge. It really is the most simple software to install.
besides i think a mini tutorial is the least i can do in return for the help.

Something has gone very wrong, i still cant get the forum warapped in the cms, but now i cant log into the forum at all.
It dosnt give any warning of wrong name or password, so i assume it seems these in the databse, however it simply brings me back to the forum log in page, this has also stopped me from logging into the forum admin panel.
I can however log into the cms and cms admin……….its late, so tomorrow i will delete both the forum and cms and reinstall.
Seeing as you have it working smoothing, i can only assume i have made some error along the way. Lets see what a fresh install brings . Lets face it, once i get it working then anyone can lol.
