Critical error-bailing out

Good mornign folks, installing Composr by Softaculous is simple, but various times I have attempted to install Composr by composr_quick_installer extracted to my managed vps.

Server Apache with php 7.0
  • Server: Localhost via UNIX socket
  • Server type: MySQL
  • Server version: 5.6.37 - MySQL Community Server (GPL)
  • Protocol version: 10
  • Server charset: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8)
The install runs as expected, when it comes time configure features, and or navigate to admin zone or website home page, I get this error.

Critical error – bailing out
This is an error that has been elevated to critical error status because it occurred during the primary error mechanism reporting system itself (possibly due to it occurring within the standard output framework). It may be masking a secondary error that occurred before this, but was never output - if so, it is likely strongly related to this one, thus fixing this will fix the other.
PHP ERROR [1] Uncaught Error: Call to a member function query() on null in sources/caches3.php:181 Stack trace: #0 sources/caches3.php(54): erase_comcode_cache() #1 sources/global2.php(401): auto_decache(true) #2 sources/global.php(302): init__global2() #3 sources/global.php(782): require_code('global2') #4 index.php(73): require('/home/tpwtestus…') #5 {main} thrown in sources/caches3.php on line 181

Depending on the error, and only if the website installation finished, you may need to edit the installation options (the _config.php file).

ocProducts maintains full documentation for all procedures and tools (including disaster recovery). These may be found on the Composr website. If you are unable to easily solve this problem, we may be contacted from our website and can help resolve it for you.

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Did you install with "No forums or members"?

Become a fan of Composr on Facebook or add me as a friend. Add me on on Mastodon. Follow me on Minds (where I am most active). Support me on Patreon

Was I helpful?
  • If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).
  • If so, please let others know about Composr whenever you see the opportunity or support me on Patreon.
  • If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying Composr on fun personal projects.
  • If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I think that's the case, a bug when that option is used.
It will be fixed in the next patch release.

We strongly advise against using "no forums or members" though - you won't be able to go back from it if you decide you do want to allow member accounts in the future.

Ah could this also be the cause for a similar error when I try to initially log into adminzone?

I think I switched forums off when I did an install of 10.0.15

Error:

Critical error – bailing out

MySQLi not on server (anymore?). Try using the 'mysql' database driver. To use it, edit the _config.php config file.

Hello,

This means the server does not have the PHP mysqli extension installed.

Composr absolutely needs it to function, unless you happen to be on a PHP version less than 7 and can use the mysql database driver instead – in which case you need to edit Composr's _config.php and change mysqli to mysql. PHP removed the mysql extension in version 7, so I really wouldn't recommend it's use.

This isn't in any way related to the Composr installation, fundamentally it's an issue with what's installed on the server (or what's been uninstalled, if it was there before). The server administrator needs to install it somehow.
