What file must be edited to change the Global HTML for the site footer.
I attempted searching this site for the answer, but I wasn't able to find the information. I wish to add custom HTML to the footer for the entire site (text, icons and links), and in the admin zone I was unable to locate settings to do this. I want the customization to be visible for all users regardless of whether they are guests or logged in, and I want the customization to be retained through site upgrades. What is the best way to go about accomplishing this?
UPDATE WITH SOLUTION:
I continued to sift through the Admin section of my site for the appropriate settings and I was able to locate what I needed to edit. There happens to be more than one way to locate this, but for anyone who may have the same question as I did, you can do the following to locate the editable footer of the site:
From the Admin Zone find the menu bar at the top, go to Content --> Pages (Comcode pages), and you will be presented with a list from which to choose. Under the "Pages" heading, go down until you find panel_bottom, then select the "Edit" link in the same row.

If you do wish to edit this file manually (and not via the CMS) then you should make a copy of it in the templates_custom/ directory of your theme/s before making any edits.
