Designing Catalouges - Best Practice?

Is Separate Category Catologues Useful?

Hi I hope I can get some sound advice for a catalogue I wish to desing in composr.

I am designing a catalogue for MAXIMS.

Primarily I will be focusing on legal maxims however others may end up being included.

Many (most) Maxims will likely include a Latin version and and English translation

Perhaps notes to describe or further explain the maxim.

Potentially CASE law references where the maxim has been applied or referenced. This will likely include case law title and link to decisions.

I wouls also like to attach a "Theme" category to the Maxim eg: "Trusts and Equity" "Contracts" "Judiciary" "Frauds" Fictions" etc.....

I would also like the ability to just browse by alphabetical listing of all maxims under an alphabetical character

I would also like to perhaps have a category importance of say maybe "low" "med" 'high" in terms of LEGAL recognition or importance.

Also one other Category of MAIN Jurisdiction being one of the three main jurisdictions of law as to the maxim may pertain being Land - common/natural/gods law or Air - Ecclisiastical or Cannon Law or Water = Admiralty, Maritime, Commerce Law

As such I was thinking I should create a "Maxim Themes" Catalogue whereby the theme title or english name is held  the lists such as "equity" frauds etc

Then My "Maxims" Catalogue which has the following fields and types Latin Maxum -

1. brief line of text to hold the maxim in Latin eg:  "Aequitas legem sequitur "

2. brief line of translatable text to hold the maxim in english (and hopefully other languages eventually eg: "Equity follows the law"

3. Note or comcode translate section

4. Cases citations (dunno maybe this should be another catalogues? however thought is to link to cases externally.

5. Theme Catgeroy like in this case "Equity" and this is where I think a simple catalogue of theme categories would be benificial or am I designing wrong?

6. Imortance to Theme (simple list choice here works low to high

7 Main Jurisdiction of LAW (again simple list of choices here common, civil, canon etc) however these jurisdictional references maybe used in other catalogues or places throughout the site should the also maybe a simple catalogue to be crossed referenced elsewhere when needed?

LAstly should I add a hidden alphabetical sorting field so if I want to make a list of maxims simply for alphabetical listing like all maxims begining with "A" or is that just simpler with tempcode and or a hook for query aplhabetically?

Well, my first thought/advice with catalogues is always not to try too hard to push the catalogues system unless you want things to get a lot more complicated. Anyone truly trying to make a relational database with a custom interface should probably be coding a proper new module as it might be easier than trying to work within whatever complicated abstractions catalogues can provide.

That said, what you wrote seems fairly straight forward if kept simple. Plus search does automatically work with catalogues, so if you want a simple way of filtering stuff, that works out the box.

Maxim (Latin) [A brief line of text]
Maxim (Translated) [A brief line of translatable/Comcode text]
Notes [A paragraph(s) of translatable/Comcode text]
Case law references [Multiple values chosen from a list]
Theme [A value chosen from a list]
Importance [A value chosen from a list]
Main jurisdiction [A value chosen from a list]

I comprehend what you are saying about the use of Catalogue vs proper Relational Database and New Module system but the problem is I am out of the coding world for years now (I think in the vicinity of 8? at least, 6 for sure) So getting up to snuff is gonna be some work and time is of the essence for parts of this project.

 However, I was reading the Tutorials on Developing for Composr as well as browsing through a couple major addons like booking, builder and maybe some other things.  I got the basics for a simple block design by looking at the main_quotes block (cause I wanted to add quotes. I have a question though that studying that block raises for me that I would rather PM you about at some point so if you don't see that soon remind me.

Those things said, this site is meant to be a place to educate people in various things they may not have been taught or have been censored from them to give them tools to save themselves in these turbulent times.

Although I haven't been coding for 8 years I have been busy. For a while I was playing the game and just surviving. But enjoying life nonetheless. I Kept busy between work and play and family. Then I woke up. The Matirx is a frightening place when you look at the tentacles of evil that pervade our world.

It took a while to get to the point after researching about just how much I  really didn't know about this world and how eerily resemblant of certain prophecies our current times are that more understanding came to me. Both Spirituality and LAW are very intertwined and I have been researching and learning very much the last 2 years in both. My prior years learning has other areas of expertise or knowledge that is also useful as well as I can guide people to places to learn more so they can make informed decisions about the choices they make. For now, it is very important the choices we make.  

Sorry I know time is important and your a busy guy so sorry for the long winded but I there truly is so much to say I hope that gives you an idea of the SPIRIT behind where I am going but I'll try to keep this short here.

I have an idea for a new module (well several really but one is crucial to start and after studying a bit I think I could do it myself (prob with annoying you occasionally for guidance)
 but it would take a long time and require me to go off track of where my learning is hot.

My sites meant to connect people to learn as well as provide solutions to problems. The crucial module is important and is a big job and you or your team would be best to handle this but I am broke. However this site is likely to turn very huge.

So my goal is to keep on track and start sharing the knowledge I have discovered to attract a base who when they understand the goals of the site will gladly fund the development of any and all modules I am planning.

Therefor, I am gonna focus on the plan and specs for Quotes for you and get the thing up running as a start. On mostly the features I have to work with, and I can dabble a little for some enhancements here and there, but its more important I design the learning center stuff first which I will use a combo of wikki+, catalogues, quizzes forums and news and newsletters. If I can get enough content up quickly this thing will soar.

Here's what I will be looking for from you guys in the future:

This is meant to be a multisite install but I for now am starting solo so there maybe a porting job in the future or maybe at that point I'll have time to help with that but my goal is to get you guys paid for most if not all technical aspects for everything (yes I know we are talking ginormous bucks but I am not worried you'll see) including if possible hosting. At least setting up dedicated servers with whatever hardened version of linux built for ocportal you want.

This will end up being a massive multisite worldwide network of connected sites and I want to branch so that each subsite has a focus on certain things pertaining to their locale or function and yet is still connected to info from higher locales. A sort of symbiotic relationship with each site having mostly each focused on the same principles but adapted for their community.

There will be several module development requirements but, as I say we start with the crucial, and, its a great one.
I will send the specs and over all design plan for the site so you can even give a rough quote so I know what to raise. It'll be huge trust me I will PM when I have everything ready.

This is big over all but your effort can be limited in the begging  as I know you're busy but I would look to keep a near future slot of time open at least to you see my plans. I am pretty sure you'll feel it's lucrative enough to put it high priority as well as I think you're the kind of guy that will actually find this project very rewarding in many ways.

This is very hard for me to reply to, but I feel I should as you were directly writing to me. It's not difficult just because of the length and amount you're talking about, but also because I'm already over-committed on clients and projects, but mainly because I'm about as skeptical person as you can find on anything religious/spiritual/supernatural.

For example, it would be basically impossible to convince me to go along with the idea that we are living in the matrix unless you somehow forced me to swallow a red pill ;-). Us being actually in a matrix-like thing is an interesting idea I'd admit: some things about our universe do seem designed to make things more computable (like information transfer speed limits, and random quantum fluctuations as a 'cheat' mechanic), and the idea that any species will eventually creates simulations and hence there would be many simulations and only one reality is interesting (but also very arguable). However, that's all conjecture and a long way from solid evidence for me. As a rule I don't talk about my personal beliefs publicly outside of Twitter, because people believe so many things and I have no interest in pouring cold water over other people's ideas and want to foster an inclusive atmosphere.

Well Matrix may conjure different images for many people but one thng I can say is things are for more "connected" than the average person thinks. When your inner eye wakens you see so many things.

But to let you know this site is not quite what you think probably. It's primary focus from the get go will be LAW. I've been researching and studying like crazy and there are "Bibilcal" and "Majickal" intricacies behind it (and everything) but there are soo many secrets hidden from people.

The world is set up to convert you to a dead being (believe it or not). They do this with the "Birth Certificate" system which ties you into "Maritime Law" jurisdiction (Latin Juris = Of Right, Diction = Words) as the birth certificate is a "Corporation" in your name and traded on the stock market. (Latin Coprpus = Body, Oration = Speach) They are making the dead speak with the fictional entity they create and "bind" you to.

There is way way much more to show you that most of what you think you know is probably wrong and you have been lied to your whole life and many many many things have been hidden from you. The distractions of Life prevent you from seeing them cause we truly never fully ananlyze most things and take much for granted.
