- If not, please let us know how we can do better (please try and propose any bigger ideas in such a way that they are fundable and scalable).

- If my reply is too Vulcan or expressed too much in business-strategy terms, and not particularly personal, I apologise. As a company & project maintainer, time is very limited to me, so usually when I write a reply I try and make it generic advice to all readers. I'm also naturally a joined-up thinker, so I always express my thoughts in combined business and technical terms. I recognise not everyone likes that, don't let my Vulcan-thinking stop you enjoying Composr on fun personal projects.
- If my response can inspire a community tutorial, that's a great way of giving back to the project as a user.

I discovered:
Saratoga-Weather.org - Scripts - Earthquake info from USGS
Ken shares many great PHP weather related scripts. It was very easy to modify a bit and include the earthquake script as a mini-block into Composr….
It uses a CURL to grab current data from Earthquakes | U.S. Geological Survey
I decided not to use the map, just basic info for now.
His other PHP scripts and tools look very cool also.
You can see the earthquake info shared here:
Nandalow: HOKKAIDO INFOs - Nandalow
towards the top, center column, under the radio show box

Home ⋆ Asterisk
FreePBX | Open source, web-based, IP PBX management tool.
Looking for trouble & stress? ready to open a serious can of worms?
I have always been interested in running Asterisk the PBX telephone system so recently I installed it on my server. It was some work but pretty straight foward.
But once you have Asterisk installed and running there is no GUI.. not much fun trying to configure complex telephony software..
So I researched and found the freePBX gui for Asterisk.
I installed it, not too bad, some extra work and config and time.
Then the can of worms feeling really sets in, I was warned, all the forums talk about now many bugs those systems have.
Suddenly my Composr site was crashed, my other site using bootstrap was failing etc!!

So I noticed right away that they take over your system, instead of apache or www-data in control of web server it is now "asterisk" and all the permissions are fubar..
After an hour of struggling with various permissions schemes etc I gave up and I changed ownership back to www-data and luckily Composr etc is working as normal, wheew!

So at the moment my websites are working normally and the asterisk & freePBX are running OK it seems, but the next step is to set it up. I thought the GUI would make it easy but nope, its super complex.
My internet connection is fiber and includes a digital telephone line….. and exploring various forums it seems I can connect this all to the PBX so I can receive call/fax and have a voicemail system.
Wish me luck! Anyone else messed with this stuff?

Glad to read you managed to get everything working, Ironfeather. That's what we call a calm before another storm. haha
