Cognac amber is the most common and typical color of ambers. This amber comes from the sap color. The age of the amber ranges from 30 to 50 million years. Cognac amber resembles the rich brown color of French brandy, and darker hues rank among the more sought-after shades of amber. The color is almost transparent due to the air gasses trapped inside of the gemstone. It may contain "inclusions" such as plant debris, pollen, and even insects trapped in the tree resin and preserved when it fossilized, which increases its value.
